Short-Term & Long-Term Therapy

Finding the Right Pace for Your Therapy Journey

Some concerns feel immediate, specific, and ready to be explored within a focused timeframe. Others unfold more gradually and benefit from a deeper, ongoing process. Whether you’re seeking clarity around a particular issue or looking to understand long-standing patterns, therapy can be tailored to meet you where you are.

What is Short-Term Therapy?

Short-term therapy is ideal if you're looking for support with a specific concern, life event, or challenge and want a structured, goal-oriented approach.

A Focused and Collaborative Approach

In our initial consultation, we’ll explore what’s bringing you to therapy and agree on the goals you’d like to focus on. This type of therapy usually centres around one or two key issues, allowing us to stay focused and purposeful.

What to Expect

  • Typically 6 to 12 weekly sessions

  • Clear goals and structured sessions

  • Regular check-ins to monitor progress

  • Practical tools and strategies to support change

This approach is designed to help you gain clarity, insight, and coping tools within a defined period of time.

Reviewing Your Progress

As we approach the final sessions, we’ll reflect on your progress together. Some clients feel ready to end therapy at this stage, while others choose to continue into longer-term work — and that decision is always yours.

What is Long-Term Therapy?

Some experiences take time to explore. If you're navigating long-standing emotional difficulties, recurring relationship patterns, or deeper questions about identity and self-worth, long-term therapy offers the space to work at a slower, more reflective pace.

A Deeper, Ongoing Process

Long-term therapy allows us to explore underlying patterns, past experiences, and complex emotions in greater depth. It provides continuity and a supportive environment for lasting change.

Flexible and Open-Ended Support

While we may begin with an initial block of 6 to 12 sessions, we’ll regularly review how things are progressing.

  • If you feel that more time is needed — whether to:

  • Explore deeper emotional layers

  • Work through complex or long-standing issues

  • Continue personal growth and self-understanding

—you’re always welcome to continue.

No Fixed Timeline

There’s no set endpoint. The length of therapy is shaped entirely by your needs, and we’ll continue to review this together throughout the process.

Not Sure Which Option Is Right for You?

It’s completely natural to feel unsure about whether short-term or long-term therapy is the right fit.

During your initial consultation, we can talk this through together — exploring your goals, needs, and preferences — and decide on an approach that feels right for you.

Start Your Therapy Journey

Taking the first step can feel significant, but you don’t have to figure it all out alone. Whether you're looking for short-term support or a longer-term space for reflection, therapy can be shaped around you.
