Compassionate Support Through Loss, Bereavement & Emotional Pain
Grief can affect every part of life. Whether you have lost a loved one recently or are carrying a loss from many years ago, bereavement can bring overwhelming emotions, confusion, numbness, anxiety, sadness, anger, or a deep sense of loneliness.
There is no “right” way to grieve. Everyone experiences loss differently, and sometimes the impact can feel difficult to cope with alone.
At Private Counselling Online, I offer confidential online grief counselling for adults navigating bereavement, anticipatory grief, emotional loss, and life after significant change. Therapy provides a safe and supportive space where you can talk openly, process difficult emotions, and begin to make sense of your experience at your own pace.
Understanding Grief
Grief is a natural human response to loss, but that does not make it easy. The emotional impact of bereavement can affect mental wellbeing, relationships, physical health, work, and day-to-day functioning.
You may experience:
-
Deep sadness or emotional numbness
-
Anxiety or panic after a loss
-
Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
-
Feelings of guilt, anger, or regret
-
Loneliness or isolation
-
A sense of emptiness or loss of identity
-
Difficulty adjusting to life changes
-
Emotional overwhelm around anniversaries or reminders
-
Anticipatory grief when supporting someone who is seriously ill
Sometimes people feel pressure to “move on” before they are emotionally ready. Counselling offers a space where grief does not need to be rushed or minimised.
The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) recognises that talking therapy can help people process bereavement, understand emotional responses to loss, and find ways to cope with grief in a healthy and supportive environment.
My Experience Supporting Grief & Bereavement
Alongside my private practice, I have experience working within hospice settings supporting individuals and families affected by terminal illness, end-of-life care, and bereavement.
This work has given me a deep understanding of the emotional complexity that often surrounds grief — including anticipatory loss, unresolved emotions, family dynamics, fear, helplessness, and the profound adjustments that can follow bereavement.
I understand that grief is not something to “fix.” Often, what people need most is a compassionate space where they feel heard, supported, and able to speak openly without judgement.
How Grief Counselling Can Help
As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I tailor therapy to your individual needs and experiences. Some people need space simply to talk. Others want support understanding emotions that feel difficult to process or manage.
Counselling may help you to:
-
Process painful emotions safely
-
Explore the impact of your loss
-
Cope with overwhelming thoughts or feelings
-
Understand complicated or delayed grief
-
Navigate changes in relationships and identity
-
Reduce feelings of isolation
-
Find healthier ways to cope emotionally
-
Begin adjusting to life after loss
Therapy is not about forgetting someone or “getting over” grief. It is about finding support while learning how to carry loss in a way that feels more manageable.
Online Bereavement Counselling From the Comfort of Home
Many people find online therapy particularly supportive during grief because it allows them to access help from a familiar, private environment.
Benefits of online counselling include:
-
Attend sessions from home
-
Flexible appointments around work and family life
-
No need to travel during emotionally difficult periods
-
Confidential one-to-one support anywhere in the UK
-
Safe, calm therapeutic space at your own pace
Professional organisations such as the BACP recognise online counselling as an effective way for many people to access emotional support.
