LGBTQ+ Counselling Online

Affirmative, Compassionate Support for LGBTQ+ Individuals
Finding a space where you feel fully accepted, understood, and able to speak openly can be incredibly important when navigating identity, relationships, mental health, or life experiences as an LGBTQ+ person.
At Private Counselling Online, I provide confidential online counselling for LGBTQ+ individuals in a safe, inclusive, and non-judgemental environment. My approach is warm, relational, and affirming, offering therapy that respects your identity, experiences, relationships, and individuality without assumption or judgement.
Whether you are struggling with anxiety, identity, relationships, shame, grief, low self-esteem, loneliness, or emotional overwhelm, therapy can provide a supportive space where you feel genuinely heard.
Understanding LGBTQ+ Mental Health
LGBTQ+ individuals can face unique emotional challenges that may impact mental wellbeing and relationships.
You may be experiencing:
-
Anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm
-
Difficulties around identity or self-acceptance
-
Relationship challenges or intimacy concerns
-
Family rejection or lack of understanding
-
Loneliness or isolation
-
Workplace stress or discrimination
-
Shame, low self-esteem, or internalised negativity
-
Grief, loss, or life transitions
-
Fear of judgement or not feeling safe to be yourself
Therapy provides a supportive space where these experiences can be explored openly and compassionately.
The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy
(BACP) highlights the importance of affirmative therapeutic support that respects identity, diversity, and lived experience.
My Professional Experience Supporting LGBTQ+ Communities
Alongside over 20 years of counselling, leadership, and healthcare experience, I have worked extensively across sexual health, HIV services, public health, bereavement care, and community-based support services within both NHS and charity settings.
This work has included supporting individuals from diverse LGBTQ+ communities facing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges — including identity struggles, stigma, discrimination, grief, relationship difficulties, anxiety, loneliness, and the emotional impact of living with or affected by HIV.
My professional experience across sexual health and HIV services has given me a deeper understanding of the unique pressures many LGBTQ+ individuals can face, as well as the importance of creating therapeutic spaces rooted in dignity, acceptance, psychological safety, and compassion.
I understand that no two experiences are the same. Therapy is not about labels or assumptions — it is about understanding you as an individual and creating a space where you feel safe enough to talk openly and honestly.
How LGBTQ+ Counselling Can Help
As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I tailor therapy to your personal experiences and emotional needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
Counselling may help you to:
-
Build confidence and self-acceptance
-
Explore identity safely and openly
-
Improve relationships and communication
-
Work through shame or difficult experiences
-
Manage anxiety, stress, or low mood
-
Develop healthier emotional boundaries
-
Process grief, rejection, or emotional pain
-
Feel more emotionally secure and grounded
-
Strengthen your sense of identity and belonging
Many people find that simply having a space where they can speak authentically, without fear of judgement, can feel deeply relieving and empowering.

A Safe, Inclusive & Confidential Space
I’m Paul Madden, a BACP-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience across counselling, hospice care, sexual health, HIV services, bereavement support, and healthcare leadership.
My approach is compassionate, inclusive, and non-judgemental. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel respected, accepted, and supported exactly as you are.
All counselling is confidential and delivered within the BACP Ethical Framework.
You Don’t Have to Navigate Things Alone
Reaching out for support can feel difficult, particularly if you have previously felt misunderstood, judged, or unsupported elsewhere. Therapy can offer a space where you feel safe enough to talk openly and begin making sense of what you are carrying.
If you are looking for LGBTQ+ affirmative counselling with a therapist who understands the emotional complexities affecting many LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, I invite you to get in touch.
