LGBTQ+ Counselling

Exploring your identity, relationships or life experiences can sometimes feel isolating, particularly if you've experienced misunderstanding, discrimination or a lack of acceptance. Whatever your experiences, you deserve a space where you can be yourself without fear of judgement.

I offer confidential LGBTQ+ counselling online, by telephone and in person, providing an affirming, compassionate and inclusive environment where you can talk openly about whatever is important to you.

Whether you're exploring your sexual orientation or gender identity, navigating the coming out process, experiencing relationship difficulties, coping with family challenges, managing the emotional impact of discrimination, or facing concerns around sexual health, grief, anxiety or self-acceptance, counselling offers a space to better understand your experiences, strengthen your emotional wellbeing, and move towards a life that feels authentic to you.

Affirmative, Compassionate Support for LGBTQ+ Individuals

Finding a space where you feel accepted, understood and able to speak openly can make a real difference when navigating identity, relationships, mental health or life as an LGBTQ+ person.

I offer confidential LGBTQ+ counselling in a safe, inclusive and non-judgemental environment.

Sessions are available online, by telephone or in person, allowing you to choose the approach that feels most comfortable for you. My approach is warm, affirming and tailored to you, recognising that every person's experiences, relationships and identity are unique.

Whether you're exploring your identity, navigating the coming out process, experiencing relationship difficulties, coping with anxiety, shame, grief, loneliness, low self-esteem or emotional overwhelm, counselling provides a supportive space where you can be yourself without fear of judgement.

Together, we can explore your experiences, build on your strengths, and work towards greater confidence, self-acceptance and emotional wellbeing.

Understanding LGBTQ+
Mental Health

LGBTQ+ individuals can face unique emotional challenges that may impact

mental wellbeing and relationships.

You may be experiencing:

  • Anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm

  • Difficulties around identity or self-acceptance

  • Relationship challenges or intimacy concerns

  • Family rejection or lack of understanding

  • Loneliness or isolation

  • Workplace stress or discrimination

  • Shame, low self-esteem, or internalised negativity

  • Grief, loss, or life transitions

  • Fear of judgement or not feeling safe to be yourself

Therapy provides a supportive space where these experiences can be explored openly and compassionately.

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy

(BACP) highlights the importance of affirmative therapeutic support that respects identity, diversity, and lived experience.

My Professional Experience Supporting LGBTQ+ Communities

Alongside over 20 years of counselling, leadership, and healthcare experience, I have worked extensively across sexual health, HIV services, public health, bereavement care, and community-based support services within both NHS and charity settings.

This work has included supporting individuals from diverse LGBTQ+ communities facing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges — including identity struggles, stigma, discrimination, grief, relationship difficulties, anxiety, loneliness, and the emotional impact of living with or affected by HIV.

My professional experience across sexual health and HIV services has given me a deeper understanding of the unique pressures many LGBTQ+ individuals can face, as well as the importance of creating therapeutic spaces rooted in dignity, acceptance, psychological safety, and compassion.

I understand that no two experiences are the same. Therapy is not about labels or assumptions — it is about understanding you as an individual and creating a space where you feel safe enough to talk openly and honestly.

How LGBTQ+ Counselling Can Help

As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I tailor therapy to your personal experiences and emotional needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Counselling may help you to:

  • Build confidence and self-acceptance

  • Explore identity safely and openly

  • Improve relationships and communication

  • Work through shame or difficult experiences

  • Manage anxiety, stress, or low mood

  • Develop healthier emotional boundaries

  • Process grief, rejection, or emotional pain

  • Feel more emotionally secure and grounded

  • Strengthen your sense of identity and belonging

Many people find that simply having a space where they can speak authentically, without fear of judgement, can feel deeply relieving and empowering.

Choose the Type of Support That Works for You

Feeling able to speak openly and authentically is an important part of counselling. That's why I offer sessions online, by telephone and in person, allowing you to choose the approach that feels safest, most comfortable and most accessible for you.

Whether you prefer the flexibility of online counselling, the simplicity of telephone sessions, or the dedicated space of face-to-face therapy, you'll receive the same confidential, affirming and non-judgemental support.

Depending on the type of counselling you choose, the benefits may include:

  • A choice of online, telephone or in-person appointments

  • Flexible sessions around work, study and other commitments

  • No travel required for online or telephone appointments

  • A calm, private therapy room for face-to-face sessions

  • Confidential one-to-one support where your identity and experiences are respected without judgement

Professional organisations, including the BACP, recognise online counselling as an effective and accessible form of therapy. Whatever format you choose, counselling offers a safe and inclusive space where you can explore your experiences, strengthen your wellbeing, and be fully yourself.
