Your initial assessment is the first step in your counselling journey. It gives us the opportunity to explore what has brought you to therapy, understand your current difficulties, and discuss what you hope to achieve through counselling.
This is a relaxed, confidential conversation where you can talk openly at your own pace. There is no expectation to share everything in one session or have all the answers before you begin.
During your assessment, we may explore:
-
What has led you to seek counselling at this time
-
The thoughts, feelings or experiences affecting your wellbeing
-
Any ongoing challenges, worries or patterns in your life
-
Your relationships, work, family or other important areas
-
Your previous experiences of counselling, if any
-
What you would like to gain from therapy
The assessment also gives you the opportunity to experience what counselling with me is like, ask any questions you may have, and decide whether you feel we're the right fit to work together.
If we decide to continue, we'll discuss the most appropriate approach for your needs and arrange ongoing counselling sessions at a pace that feels right for you.
Whether you're struggling with anxiety, stress, grief, relationship difficulties, low mood, self-esteem, or simply feeling overwhelmed, this first session provides a safe and supportive space to begin making sense of what's happening and consider the next steps together.
